TEHRAN (IRNA) -- Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Reza Attar, in a meeting with Turkey's deputy foreign minister here Monday, underlined Tehran's intention to expand ties with Ankara.

According to Foreign Ministry Media Department report, Attar by expressing pleasure with Turkish senior diplomat's visit to Tehran said, ""Iran-Turkey relations are based upon historical, geographical, political, and economic spheres.""
The official expressed satisfaction with Tehran-Ankara ties and added it was in a right and logical route.
Turkey's Deputy Foreign Minister Onal Couyek Ouz, for his part, expressed pleasure with opening a new round of consultations between officials of both foreign ministries and underlined necessity of taking common stances on the regional developments.
Ouz said, ""Political situation in the region as well as neighboring countries is directly related to national interests of both Iran and Turkey.""
Referring to Iran's importance and position among countries of the region, the Turkish senior diplomat called for expansion of bilateral political interactions.
